This week Ada Castle is back and with Christmas on our doorstep we look at some of the positives around the COVID pandemic, such as the incredible vaccination rates in our communities, the great work of health care staff and the vaccination for primary school aged kids.
We also discuss the Omicron varient, booster and third shots and how to have a COVID safe Christmas Day with your family and friends.

On this weeks show we're joined by Julie Scanlon who is an Integrated Care Worker and part of the Older Australian Intiative that Grampians Community Health are running across the Grampians/Wimmera area. Julie discusses the issues of isolation that have been amplified during the past few years due to the COVID pandemic, how this has exacerbated existing mental health conditions, made more older people isolated and lonely and the difficulty of dealing with grief in a pandemic world. We also discuss ways that people like Julie are helping older people reconnect with their communities.

Nichole speaks candidly about her past as an ice addict, what she saw and went through, her journey to sobriety and her new passion, helping others and their families who are suffering from methamphetamine addiction by starting The Raewill Project, to support those people and their families looking for help as a person with lived experience of addiction.

As the 16 Days of Activism rolls on this week we continue our discussion of family violence. I'm joined by Kaye and this week we discuss in depth why people stay or have so much difficulty fleeing family violence and the effect that can have on children. We also discuss mens behaviour change programs and why it's so important for good men to speak out on issues around family violence, respect and equality.

As we begin the 16 Days of Activism and we turn a spotlight on to putting a stop to violence against women and children, we are joined by Dawn who has over 20 years experience in the family violence field in Australia and the UK. We speak about the alarming statistics, the barriers that can be faced by people who are faced with family violence and the many forms family violence can take. A tough subject to talk about but one we need to be talking about.

We also discuss The Resilience Project as a whole and the principles of GEM: Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness.

We talk about the importance of social connections, the increased need in the community, particularly since the lockdowns over the past two years due to COVID, for the need for social inclusion and how GCH and BCH are achieving this through this program.

Catching up this week with Kieran Ryan who is the Head of Corporate Partnerships at Movember. Kieran is a Grampians local from Stawell who joined the Movember cause after the loss of two close friends to suicide and decided that he wanted to do more to make sure it never happened to anyone else. We talk mental health, prostate and testicular cancer, the Movember movemnet and what it means and of course some tips on fashioning the upper lip hair during Movember.
